They’re existing donors, but many nonprofits overlook them.
Known as mid-level donors, the Chronicle of Philanthropy finds this group only makes up 1% of all donors but provides 34% of total revenue. While giving levels differ across organizations, mid-level donors typically give in the range of $250 to $5,000 per year. Unfortunately, their dependability also contributes to nonprofits overlooking them.
They don’t easily fit with lower-tier direct response programs, but they don’t give enough to be included with major giving. Since major donors almost always grow out of this tier, many nonprofits are missing opportunities to build long-term relationships.
